The inner circle of Kennedy Agyapong’s 2028 presidential campaign has fallen apart, as three of his most trusted allies from 2023 have quietly defected from his campaign, sources close to the team have confirmed to MyNewsGh.com.
Kwame Owusu, the former campaign manager; Ambassador Edward Boateng, who served as chief branding strategist; and businessman Kofi Oppong Bio, the lead financier of the campaign, have all formally disengaged from the “Ken for 2028” campaign.
These personalities were very instrumental in Kennedy Agyapong garnering nearly 40% of the delegates votes in the last internal presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
So far, none of the three personalities have issued public statements, but credible party insiders say they are already in talks with various presidential hopefuls within the party.
According to deep-throat sources within the Bawumia campaign, Ambassador Edward Boateng is the most likely of the three to join Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s emerging 2028 campaign team.
Amb. Boateng, MyNewsGh was told crafted much of the visual and messaging architecture behind Ken Agyapong’s 2023 run, and is reportedly seen as a valuable addition to Bawumia’s communications and strategy operations ahead of 2026 primary and the 2028 election as well.
Kwame Owusu and Kofi Oppong Bio appear headed in a different direction.
Credible sources say Kwame Owusu and Oppong Bio are currently engaged with the Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum camps.
Both Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Adutwum are quietly building coalitions ahead of their contest for the party’s 2028 flagbearer slot but possibly bargaining for running mate slot with their numbers, party insiders told this portal.
Despite a strong showing in the 2023 primaries, where he secured nearly 40% of the vote, the Kennedy Agyapong campaign has lost energy in recent months, with various defections to Dr. Bawumia’s camp.
The Kennedy campaign claimed those defections were moles they themselves fished out. It is unclear whether these three personalities can also be described as “moles” who have been exposed and expelled.
