Adansi Helicopter Crash: Gov’t honours victims

Ghana continues to grieve following the military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
Among the dead are two prominent cabinet ministers—Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed—as well as senior military officers and party officials. The crash, described as one of the darkest moments in recent memory, has thrown the country into mourning.

In a gesture of remembrance, a wreath-laying ceremony was held Thursday, August 7, at the Ceremonial Gardens of Jubilee House. President John Dramani Mahama, joined by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman and other top state officials, laid wreaths in honour of the deceased. Members of the NDC, families, the security services, and the general public were also present to pay their respects.
Dr. Murtala Muhammed, who also served as MP for Tamale Central, died alongside fellow cabinet minister Dr. Omane Boamah. Other victims include Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC National Vice Chairman; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and three Air Force crew members—Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The ceremony forms part of a three-day national mourning declared by the government, which will end with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the State House on Saturday, August 9.
