He called me the night before he died– Vanderpuye on helicopter crash

Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, National Coordinator for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), has shared a poignant account related to the tragic helicopter crash that occurred in Adansi Sikamaan on August 6, 2025.
Vanderpuye revealed that he had been in contact with Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the night before the accident.
“Aboagye had invited him to attend a program in Obuasi together with Eddie Kwarteng and himself.
“Aboagye called me the night before and said there’s this program in Obuasi. He wants us to go together, me, Eddie Kwarteng, and him. I am the one who never gets up early. So I should sleep early and get up at 4 a.m.
“We shall drive to Obuasi. So, I asked my wife to wake me up. Unfortunately, he didn’t call,” Vanderpuye recounted during a wreath-laying ceremony at Jubilee House on August 8.
He also explained the usual travel routes, noting, “Normally, we drive through the Central Region Road. Now we are going to Obuasi. We don’t go through Kumasi; we always go through Mankessim.”
