Court remands suspect in murder of Immigration officer

On Friday, August 8, 2025, the Adabraka District Court remanded Bright Aweh into police custody for two weeks in connection with the murder of Ghana Immigration Service officer Stephen King Amoah.
The case has been adjourned to August 22 while police investigations continue.
Amoah, 38, was reported missing on July 4 after leaving his Ashongman Estate home the previous night to meet Aweh. Police say Aweh had sent him photos of cash and promised repayment of a debt.
On July 9, Amoah’s partially burnt body was found in a gutter near Kwabenya, leading investigators to reclassify the case from kidnapping to murder.
A forensic search of Aweh’s home revealed blood stains, signs of a cleanup, and other evidence. Additional items, including a burnt carpet and a bloodstained fufu pestle, were found at a second location.
Police also impounded Aweh’s vehicle, which tested positive for blood. DNA testing is ongoing to confirm the remains.
Outside the courtroom, Amoah’s sister, Vesta, called for justice, saying the family has been severely affected by his death.
The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department is leading the case.
