Ministry of Energy announces scheduled shutdown of Atuabo Gas processing plant

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has approved Ghana National Gas Company Ltd.’s request to carry out a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant from August 16 to August 30, 2025.

In a press release issued on August 11, the Ministry stated, “This essential maintenance is part of government’s commitment to ensuring the continued safe and reliable operation of the plant.”

The Ministry explained that Ghana Gas will temporarily suspend the supply of gas within this period to allow for the work, which will involve critical maintenance activities. “These activities include inspections, repairs, and upgrades to key equipment and systems to enhance operational efficiency and overall performance,” the statement read.

Acknowledging possible concerns over electricity supply, the Ministry assured the public that steps have been taken to prevent disruptions.

“We have put in place comprehensive measures to mitigate any potential impact on power supply during the maintenance period. These measures include the strategic deployment of alternative fuel sources to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply across the country,” the Ministry said.

Reaffirming its stance, the Ministry concluded, “We remain unwavering in our commitment to maintaining reliable power supply at all times. We will keep the public informed by providing regular updates on the progress of the ongoing maintenance.”
