I didn’t hear Mahama build churches when he was in opposition – Journalist

Ghanaian journalist Gordon Asare-Bediako has expressed surprise over President John Mahama’s swift achievement of constructing and furnishing ten churches for the Assemblies of God denomination—just seven months into his current administration.

This accomplishment stands in stark contrast to Mahama’s previous eight years in opposition, during which, according to Asare-Bediako, there was no record of similar support for the church.

“Mahama stayed in opposition for 8 years, I didn’t hear him buy a church pew or collection bowl for Assemblies of God,” he remarked on Movement TV.

“However, within just six months of being in office, he has managed to build ten churches and mission houses for the denomination.”

The project fulfills a campaign promise President Mahama made in November 2024 during a stop in Navrongo.

There, he pledged to build churches for the Assemblies of God in northern Ghana. Remarkably, this promise was realized in only six months.

As reported by Fuseini Donkor during a discussion on TV3’s New Day program, the ten newly constructed churches are strategically located across the five northern regions of Ghana.

Each facility is fully furnished and comes with accommodation for pastors, equipped kitchens, and musical instruments, ensuring a seamless transition for church leaders and their families.

“This is not just about putting up buildings,” Fuseini emphasized. “Everything has been done—from the instruments to the kitchens—so that all the pastors and their families have to do is move in.”

The Assemblies of God is expected to operate these branches, which will serve dual roles as places of worship and comfortable homes for the church leadership.
