Justice Oppong appointed to the General Legal Council

The acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has appointed Justice B. V. K. Oppong, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, to serve on the General Legal Council.
In a letter dated 8th August 2025, the Honorable interim CJ conveyed message of the appointment, which takes effect from 1st September 2025.
The decision is in line with Section 1 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), which mandates the inclusion of a Justice of the Court of Appeal on the General Legal Council.
Justice Oppong, who was appointed to the Court of Appeal on 21st July 2014, will represent the Judiciary on the Council.
The General Legal Council is the statutory body responsible for regulating legal education and the professional conduct of lawyers in Ghana.
The letter also indicated that Justice Oppong’s appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Justice of Appeal Sir Dennis Adjei, who previously held the position.
The General Legal Council plays a key role in overseeing the admission of new lawyers, the maintenance of professional standards, and the administration of legal education in the country.
