AG asks court to strike out Chief Justice Torkornoo’s lawsuit

The Attorney General has filed a motion asking the High Court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo against the Shining Stars petition seeking her removal, according to a report by Starr FM.

In the motion, filed on August 12, 2025, the AG’s office argued that the matter is already under review by a committee established under Article 146(6) of the Constitution, which investigates petitions against judges.

The AG emphasized that proceedings before this committee are conducted in camera and are the proper forum for such issues, not open court.

Justice Torkornoo’s June 23 suit sought a declaration that the petition does not exist in law, claiming there are no records confirming the organization’s existence.

The AG countered that the group could legally exist without being formally incorporated and described the lawsuit as misconceived at law.

The virtual hearing for the AG’s motion is scheduled for August 25, 2025, before a vacation Court, according to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah.
