The Asante spirit must drive national development – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has encouraged members of the Asante Students Union (ASU) at the University of Ghana to uphold the values of resilience, innovation, unity, and progress embedded in the Asante heritage.

Speaking as Guest of Honour at the Union’s Grand Durbar Homecoming and Handover Ceremony, held under the theme “Igniting the Asante Spirit: Striving for Development in All Spheres,” Afenyo-Markin reminded the students that their cultural identity goes beyond symbolism.

He explained that the Asante spirit should be seen as a heritage that drives national development, urging the youth to rise above partisan divisions and channel the values of their culture into building Ghana.

The Minority Leader commended the outgoing executives of ASU for creating a platform that connects young people to their roots, while urging the incoming leaders to raise the bar even higher in their service.

“I admonished our future leaders that the Asante spirit is not merely a cultural identity, but a heritage of resilience, innovation, unity and progress. It calls on us to rise above partisan divisions and embrace this heritage as a driving force for national development,” he said.
