I paid every penny for Bawumia to become flagbearer – Bryan Acheampong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Bryan Acheampong has alleged that he solely financed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign during the party’s 2023 primaries.

Acheampong insisted that the current Vice President did not contribute financially to his own bid to become the NPP’s flagbearer. “Dr. Bawumia’s primaries in 2023, he didn’t bring a penny into Eastern Region.

“I paid every single penny for him to become the flagbearer of this country. He didn’t pay a penny,” he stressed at a regional engagement as he solidifies his credentials to lead the NPP.

According to him, every constituency executive in the region received significant support through his personal funding. “All the constituency executives, everybody collected $1,500,” he stated.

Acheampong further recounted a conversation with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Ashanti Queen Mother’s funeral in Kumasi, where the former President acknowledged his role in financing the NPP’s activities.

“In 2016, 2017, you said that I was the single largest contributor of you coming to power. You said it, and it is a fact. In 2024, I am telling you that I funded Dr. Bawumia more than I even funded Nana Akufo-Addo,” Acheampong declared.

He also revealed that he consistently supported constituencies across the country. “This region, 33 constituencies, every month—except for six parliamentary campaigns that I believed were strong—I was giving them a hundred thousand Ghana cedis,” he claimed.

Acheampong emphasised that his claims had been shared with party members in all 14 regions he had visited, challenging anyone to disprove him. “If I am lying, tell Upper East, so that they will go and tell the people that we were there when he told Eastern Region,” he added.
