Development, jobs, and galamsey to decide Akwatia by-election

As voters in Akwatia prepare for the crucial by-election on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, several key factors are expected to determine the outcome of the race.
According to the latest survey by Global Info Analytics, development projects are by far the most decisive issue, with 42% of respondents citing them as the main influence on their choice.
Other major concerns include the economy (15%), education (13%), and jobs (10%), which continue to shape voter expectations.
Though less prominent, issues such as illegal mining (galamsey) remain relevant, influencing **8% of voters**.
Meanwhile, factors like healthcare (2%), candidate popularity (2%), and sympathy voting (4%) appear to play only a minor role in voter decision-making.
With these issues dominating the campaign, the by-election is widely seen as a test of which party can better connect with the constituency’s immediate needs.
Against this backdrop, the Global Info Analytics poll suggests the NDC’s Bernard Bediako holds a narrow lead with 53%, while Solomon K. Asumadu of the NPP trails at 47%.
This marks a shift from earlier polls, which had the NPP candidate slightly ahead.
Given Akwatia’s history as a fiercely contested seat, analysts warn that turnout on election day will be decisive.
