NPP big wigs attend Ernest Kumi’s one-week observation.

Leading members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are in attendance at the 40-day observation after the demise of Ernest Kumi, who was the member of parliament for the Akwatia constituency.
Among the known names are former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the 2024 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The party’s leadership in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is also in attendance at the event, which is currently taking place at Akyem Wenchi.
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey, Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Boamah, Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, New Juaben South MP Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi, Atewa East MP Abena Osei Asare, Akuapem North MP Sammy Awudu, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, and National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha are also present.
Reports say Kennedy Agyapong and Dr Bryan Acheampong are expected at the event.

Ernest Kumi died six months after the 2024 election. He had to struggle with the law until his seat was secured by a Supreme court ruling.
On September 2, 2025, there will be a by-election in Akwatia to elect a member of parliament.
A poll by Global InforAnlytics has tippped the National Democratic Congress to win the seat indicating that calls for development and Tertiary and Senior High School students tilt towards the governing political party.
