Peaceful voting underway in Akwatia as security tightened

Voting began smoothly across all 119 polling stations in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region this morning, September 2, 2025.

Reports from Graphic Online’s Haruna Yussif Wunpini indicate that as of 8:50 a.m., voters were steadily queuing at polling centres, with the process described as peaceful and orderly.

Security has been tightened across the constituency, with senior police officers overseeing operations and supported by junior ranks.

The Police Administration has also deployed Deputy Commissioners (DCOPs) and Assistant Commissioners (ACPs) to manage security in all electoral areas.

Three candidates — representing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) — are contesting for the seat. A total of 52,328 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots.

Akwatia remains a key battleground constituency, having historically swung between the NDC and NPP.
