We support Sam George fully on DStv issues – Zabzugu MP

Alhassan Umar has thrown his full support behind Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George in the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, over subscription prices.

The Member of Parliament for Zabzugu said the Communications Committee of Parliament is united in ensuring that Ghanaians get fair treatment from the company.

“Our committee gives Sam George a 100% support. The Communications Committee of Parliament supports Hon. Sam George to ensure that Ghanaians benefit,” he said in an interview on Channel One Newsroom.

The MP insisted that DStv must heed the directives of the sector minister to reduce subscription charges or face consequences, including a possible suspension of operations.

“For now, DStv must listen to the minister and obey. They are shortchanging us,” Umar stressed.

He further linked the matter to the government’s broader agenda of resetting the economy and protecting consumers.

“As you know, the NDC government came in to do a resetting agenda, so there is no reason DStv should refuse to listen to consumers.

“It is unacceptable that even when our currency was nothing to talk about today, DStv has refused to reduce prices,” he added.

Umar’s remarks come as public pressure mounts on MultiChoice Ghana, with many subscribers calling for fairer pricing in light of economic challenges.
