Jogger, customs officers help nab Ministry of Finance thief

A 26-year-old man, Isaac Peprah, popularly known as “Happiness,” has been convicted by the Adabraka District Court after pleading guilty to stealing laptops and appliances from the Ministry of Finance Annex “E” Treasury Block in Accra.

Peprah admitted to the theft but denied charges of unlawful entry and causing damage.

The trial judge, Mrs. Abena Owusu Omenyo, struck out the additional charges after the prosecution said it would no longer pursue them.

According to Chief Inspector Apeweh Achana, Peprah scaled the fence of the Ministry around 5:00 am on August 17, 2025, broke louvre blades to enter an office, and stole laptops, chargers, a fridge, and a Bluetooth speaker.

He was later spotted with the stolen items, prompting a chase by a jogger and Customs officers. Peprah abandoned a bag of laptops during the pursuit but was eventually arrested near the Ministry of Labour.

The laptops and fridge were recovered and returned to the Ministry. In his caution statement, Peprah confessed to the crime in the presence of an independent witness.
