I was honoured to cut the celebrate the Ethiopian New Year — Vice President

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has shared her delight after joining Ethiopians to celebrate their New Year while on an official trip to Addis Ababa.

In a post on her social media page, she wrote; “I was honoured to be invited, along with the Gambian Vice President, H.E. Muhammed B.S. Jallow, to cut a cake in celebration of the Ethiopian new year.

This is the beginning of the year 2018 on the Ge’ez calendar used by our Ethiopian brothers and sisters, and I was grateful to share the moment with them.”

The Vice President explained that the celebration coincided with the conclusion of her engagements in Ethiopia.

“Today also marks the end of our trip to Addis Ababa, where we participated in the AU-CARICOM Summit and the 2nd Africa Climate Summit,” she stated.

She ended her message with warm wishes to the Ethiopian people: “Happy New Year!”

Prof. Naana’s post comes as Ethiopia ushered in 2018 on the Ge’ez calendar, a system distinct from the widely used Gregorian calendar.
