Vim Lady urges Mahama to prioritize ORAL over political arrests

Ace broadcast journalist Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to prioritise national development over what she describes as the growing trend of political arrests.

Speaking on her Gyaso Gyaso programme on Okay FM, as monitored by MyNewsGh, Vim Lady cautioned that the president’s mandate is bigger than silencing critics.

“Mr. President, your main mandate is to change the course of the economy and other facets of our lives. Yes, you’re doing well in some areas, but the arrest of political opponents has become rampant. That should not be your focus,” she said.

She advised Mahama to direct his attention to the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative by prosecuting any former officials implicated in corruption.

“If ORAL is to work, then prosecute any former official complicit in malfeasance. That is where the real focus should be,” Vim Lady stressed.

At the same time, she commended the president for backing youth-led sanitation initiatives.

“I applaud you for acknowledging the efforts of the Buzzstop Boys and equipping them in their bid to make Ghana clean. That is commendable leadership,” she said.

On the recent arrest of Kwame Baffoe Abronye, the outspoken journalist argued that it was unnecessary.

“The arrest of Abronye is not needed. Rather, you should instruct the IGP to have a conversation with Dr. Bawumia, so he can speak directly with Abronye. That would resolve the matter without arrests,” Vim Lady suggested.
