NPP’s Kojo Poku calls on NDC to focus on real galamsey kingpins

Kojo Poku has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to direct its anti-galamsey efforts at the financiers who bankroll illegal mining activities, rather than the young men working on the ground.
Speaking on Wontumi TV, the NPP member stressed that tackling the real sponsors of galamsey is the only way to achieve lasting results in the fight against illegal mining.
“I have always said that the real fight is not against the boys working on the ground, but against the kingpins who buy the excavators and fund the operations,” he explained.
He called on the government to adopt a firmer approach that goes beyond chasing miners in the pits.
“The government must focus on identifying, arresting, and prosecuting these financiers. Confiscate the excavators and punish the real culprits. That is what the NDC needs to do if they are truly serious about fighting galamsey,” he emphasized.
Poku also dismissed claims that galamsey operations were backed by NPP financiers, describing such allegations as mere political rhetoric.
“They said galamsey was being done by NPP kingpins. If that were true, and now they’re in power with Operation Recover All Loot ongoing, do you think they wouldn’t have arrested those people by now? This tells you it’s all ado about nothing,” he argued.
