GoldBod’s donation will strengthen our galamsey fight – Lands Minister

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has acknowledged the receipt of vehicles from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to fight galamsey.

Sharing the update on his social media platform as sighted by MyNewsGh, the minister said his ministry received GH₵5 million and five Toyota Hilux vehicles to support anti-galamsey operations from Sammy Gyamfi.

“I was pleased today to receive, a donation of GHS 5 million and five Toyota Hilux vehicles from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) led by its CEO, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi to bolster our fight against illegal mining,” Buah wrote.

According to him, the vehicles and funds will be immediately deployed to strengthen the work of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), which serves as the central command in coordinating the fight against galamsey.

“This significant contribution will be immediately deployed to empower the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

“As the central command in this arduous fight, NAIMOS will use these resources to coordinate our national response with greater agility and force,” he explained.

The Minister further stressed government’s unwavering resolve to end the menace of illegal mining, which has devastated vast portions of Ghana’s environment.

“I seized the opportunity to reiterate the Government’s unflinching commitment to cracking down on the menace of illegal mining.

“Our vigorous efforts are focused on healing our decimated environment and promoting only responsible and sustainable mining practices that benefit all Ghanaians,” he stated.

Expressing appreciation, Buah commended GoldBod for stepping in with timely support.

“The Ministry and NAIMOS wish to express their profound gratitude to GOLDBOD for this timely intervention and critical support,” he added.
