We mean business – Agbodza assures timely delivery of big push project

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has given strong assurances that the newly launched Big Push road project in Afienya, Greater Accra Region, will be delivered within the stipulated 24 months.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, Mr Agbodza described the initiative as a historic intervention in Ghana’s road sector.
“Mr President, if you come to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, we owe probably GHC40 billion in debt to contractors,” he revealed. “But when we went round the 16 regions, it was difficult to see what the money was spent on.”
He noted that despite the huge debt burden, President John Dramani Mahama had demonstrated leadership by rolling out what he called the “biggest dose of intervention at a single time on our roads.”
“Despite all that, Mr President, you made a bold commitment to institute an intervention that will go down in history as the president who gave the biggest dose of intervention at a single time on our roads. The Big Push is not a campaign promise; it is a bold intervention by your government,” the Minister said.
Mr Agbodza stressed that the project was not mere rhetoric but a plan that would produce visible results.
“We shall implement Big Push, and the results will be there for everybody to see. When we say we can do this project within 24 months, we mean business. The contractor on this stretch, I believe, can do this project in less than 24 months,” he assured.
