Soldiers to be stationed at any mining settlement destroyed by NAIMOS—Elikem Kotoko

Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko, has announced that government intends to station men everywhere they destroy a mining settlement.

The move is to ensure that the illegal miners do not return, like they have done in the past, after the anti-galamsey task force has left.

He believes this will be a better way in fighting the menace that has destroyed water bodies and forest reserves in the country.

Elikem Kotoko made this known in a Facebook post.

He said, “The NAIMOS will station men (soldiers) everywhere we dismantle illegal mining settlements, unlike in the past where they leave after destroying their camps”.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, NAIMOS was at Tano Offin Forest Reserve and Kyekyewre Forest where some mining settlements were destroyed.

The government has announced that military deployment is what they will use going forward for the fight against illegal mining.
