Akufo-Addo Proved Galamsey Fight Was Possible – Dennis Miracles Aboagye

Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has argued that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo deserves credit for demonstrating that the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, could be won.

Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, Aboagye maintained that Akufo-Addo’s administration was the first to show real progress in cleaning up Ghana’s polluted water bodies.

“I think that the way the president and the NDC managed to turn the entire country against Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the way they managed to politicise galamsey, is one of the reasons why Akufo-Addo could not complete the fight against galamsey,” he said.

According to him, no previous president had been able to achieve what Akufo-Addo did in the early stages of his tenure.

“None of them, not Mahama, not Professor Atta Mills, was able to achieve this. It was Nana Addo who showed that our water bodies could clean up,” Aboagye stressed.

He further argued that Akufo-Addo provided the nation with a “proof of concept” by showing that effective interventions could restore degraded water bodies when illegal mining is properly curtailed.
