NPP marches to Police Headquarters to petition IGP

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday staged a protest in Accra, describing it as a response to what they consider harassment and injustice against their members.

The demonstration, dubbed “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna,” began at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and proceeded toward the Police Headquarters, where party leaders planned to present a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

In a related development, the former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on development rather than what he termed political vendettas.

“Effectively, this government has just 36 months because the final year is an election year. Almost 11 months are gone by, and instead of addressing the pressing concerns of the people, they are busy arresting politicians,” Okoe Boye said.

He cautioned that the NDC could lose public goodwill if it continued to direct its energy toward arrests and political disputes. According to him, Ghanaians expect policies that improve livelihoods.

“When power was given to us, we spent our energy creating jobs through initiatives like One District One Factory. That is the kind of work Ghanaians expect from a government, not actions that incite fear or merely excite their base,” he added.

Okoe Boye encouraged President John Dramani Mahama and his appointees to redirect their efforts toward addressing citizens’ needs, stressing that time was limited for the administration to make progress on its promises.
