The base of the party is with me – Bryan Acheampong dismisses Bawumia’s endorsement

Dr. Bryan Acheampong has brushed aside the weight of parliamentary endorsements in the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer race, insisting that real power lies with the delegates.

Addressing party faithful in Achiase on September 25, the NPP flagbearer hopeful dismissed the recent backing of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by fifteen MPs.

“There are 20,000 strong delegates in this region who will vote. Fifteen MPs pale in comparison. It is the base of the party that counts, and that base is with me,” he declared, drawing thunderous applause.

The setting carried extra significance, as Achiase is the home constituency of Kofi Marfo, spokesperson for the pro-Bawumia MPs. Yet the atmosphere underscored Acheampong’s message, with delegates openly vowing to deliver him victory.

He urged the party to look beyond elite endorsements, stressing that his campaign rests on “inclusiveness and renewal” and a pledge to “empower the base of the party and ensure no delegate is left behind.”

In a related development, he expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning the upcoming NPP presidential elections slated for January 2026, citing widespread support from his constituents in the Eastern Region, a few days ago.

“As I mentioned earlier, I do feel the whole community has almost supported it, it’s okay.

“But I know that the whole differential people, the people in the Eastern Region, do support it,” Acheampong told his fan base during a recent interaction.

“And I’m going to win the election. Let me tell you. I’m going to win the election. I’m going to win the election.”

The former minister emphasized the importance of focusing on political power.

Acheampong’s statement comes just days after fifteen Members of Parliament from the Eastern Region publicly endorsed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
