No candidate will be favoured in our primaries – NPP assures members

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rubbished claims that its decision to hold presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, was designed to advantage one aspirant over others.
According to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, these allegations, attributed to Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, are baseless.
“The Party affirms that this assertion is unfounded. The National Council exhaustively deliberated and took the decision in the Party’s supreme and strategic interest,” the statement read.
The NPP maintained that its internal processes are built on integrity and collective decision-making, not individual preferences.
“Given the calibre of the members of the National Council, no individual can manipulate or influence a decision in his or her favour,” the release emphasized.
Explaining the rationale behind the early congress, the party noted that it was a strategic decision.
“The decision to hold an early congress is intended solely to provide the Party with sufficient time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028,” it added.
Reiterating its commitment to democratic values, the NPP stressed: “The Party remains resolutely committed to upholding transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in all its processes.”
