Is it now a crime to seek support for constituents?- Suhuyini asks Fourth Estate over NLA story

The Member of Parliament(MP) for Tamale North, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has expressed concerns over the Fourth Estate’s recent work on National Lottery Authority’s (NLA’s) Good Causes Foundation.

He is shocked that, per the story, it is a crime for a Member of Parliament to recommend to an agency that has funds supporting “Good Causes”, any known and registered NGO that offers to partner his/her office to carry out essential services and projects in one’s constituency for the benefit of constituents.

The Member of Parliament says he has asked the organisation he partnered with to provide further and better particulars on activities undertaken with the funds they got from NLA to Fourth Estate.

Making this known in a post shared via social media he said “Unfortunately it’s reported that hence forth, it will be a crime for a Member of Parliament to recommend to an agency that have funds supporting “Good Causes”, any known and registered NGO that offers to partner his/her office to carry out essential services and projects in one’s constituency for the benefit of constituents.
I have instructed CENDA GHANA to present to the Fourth Estate News Portal details of activities undertaken and their accounts.

Fourth Estate, in their recent work, disclosed some spending done by NLA, including sponsorships of events with the Goof Causes foundation.

Former Director General of the NLA, Samuel Awuku, while reacting to the story, disclosed that the monies were used to support worthy causes in the country and instead of condemnin,g they must be commended for the work they have done in the past.
