Wontumi denies attacking NPP national council

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has denied allegations that he disparaged the party’s National Council during his recent interactions with the grassroots.
The party’s national leadership had earlier dismissed recent pronouncements by Wontumi regarding the compilation of polling station albums.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on September 28, the NPP emphasised that “no individual, irrespective of rank or position, has a monopoly or unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums.”
The statement urged members and the public to treat Wontumi’s claims with disdain, stating,
“We wish to assure all stakeholders, particularly polling station executives across the country, that such pronouncements should be disregarded and treated with the utmost contempt they deserve.” It further clarified that the album compilation process follows strict procedures to ensure fairness.
“The National Secretariat will, at the appropriate time, issue clear and transparent guidelines, protocols, and procedures designed to safeguard integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process,” the party assured.
Responding to these concerns, Wontumi insisted that his comments had been misrepresented and that he had not brought the National Council into disrepute.
“Throughout my engagement with people, I have never dragged in the name of our National Council and that is easily verifiable from videos shared online,” he said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I touched on the history of our party and how it can position us to win back power in 2028 with Dr. Bawumia,” he clarified.
He further explained that his reference to electoral strategy had been wrongly linked to internal party structures. “To link this to our current situation, Dr. Bawumia is looking for 9% to win the NPP the 2028 election,” he noted.
Reiterating his position, Wontumi maintained, “The National Council of the NPP never featured in any of the statements I made to the people.”
The exchange highlights rising tensions within the party as internal preparations for future electoral contests intensify, with grassroots mobilization and leadership strategies under increased scrutiny.
