Naana Jane hosts WaterAid Ghana for talks on clean water

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring access to safe and clean water, as she hosted a delegation from WaterAid Ghana at the Jubilee House.
In a statement shared on her social media page, the Vice President highlighted the organization’s decades-long contribution to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in the country.
“I received WaterAid Ghana, an organization that has been operating in the country for the past 40 years. Our discussions centered on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), with WaterAid expressing their goal of universal water for improved public health,” she stated.
She commended the group for its consistency and impact, while also raising pressing concerns about recent cases of water pollution.
“I welcomed the delegation and commended WaterAid Ghana for their consistent efforts over the years. I also raised concerns about recent incidents of water pollution, stressing that Government is actively taking steps to find lasting solutions,” she noted.
The Vice President emphasized the need for stronger collaboration and the scaling up of proven interventions to safeguard water resources.
“Ensuring our water is safe and clean requires a collective effort, including revisiting and scaling up the preservation interventions that have proven effective. We need mutually beneficial partnerships that take charge of issues head-on rather than circling around them without resolution,” she said.
She further encouraged WaterAid Ghana to use its global influence to shed light on environmental inequalities affecting the continent.
“Finally, I encouraged WaterAid Ghana to amplify their advocacy on the international stage to highlight the environmental injustices facing Africa in terms of access to safe water and sanitation,” she added.
WaterAid Ghana has been a key partner in advancing WASH initiatives, working with communities and government agencies to promote sustainable water solutions across the country.
