NPP Chairmanship race could spark tensions – UCC Political Scientist

Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere, has cautioned that the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) could face internal strife as the race for the party’s national chairmanship heats up.
Speaking in an interview with Isaac Addae on The Verdict on Starr 103.5 FM, Dr. Otchere noted that the contest signals deeper struggles within the party.
“I am not surprised Nana Akomea is contesting for the chairmanship race in the NPP. It is all geared towards capturing the soul of the party,” he remarked.
According to him, the unfolding developments risk destabilizing the party from within if not carefully managed.
“The NPP risks an internal challenge once again due to the current happenings in the party,” he warned.
When asked whether Dr. Boakye Agyarko was the likely candidate to win the chairmanship, Dr. Otchere refrained from making a firm prediction.
“I am hesitant to declare whether Dr Boakye Agyarko is the likely candidate to win the NPP chairmanship; the dynamics have changed and only time will tell,” he explained.
