Ghana Armed forces arrest soldiers over alleged extortion at mining site

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of two soldiers in connection with alleged extortion activities at LongShine Mining Company Limited in Prestea-Obohu, Western Region.

The incident, which also involved some civilian accomplices, reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the military said it is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to establish the facts surrounding the case.

“The Ghana Armed Forces is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to establish allegations of extortion incident involving two soldiers and some civilian accomplices at LongShine Mining Company Limited in Prestea-Obohu on Sunday, 28 September 2025,” the release stated.

The GAF further assured the public that any personnel found guilty will face the full rigours of the law without protection.

“If found culpable, personnel will face the law as any citizen of Ghana. The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that it will not shield its personnel involved in criminal activities,” the statement added.
