Police deny reports that seized ‘wee’ turned into sawdust

The Ghana Police Service has dismissed widespread media reports claiming that bags of Indian hemp intercepted in the Eastern Region had mysteriously turned into sawdust.
In a statement released on its official social media platforms, the Service clarified that the seized substances remain in police custody.
“We therefore urge the public to disregard false media reports claiming that the 36 sacks have turned into sawn dust,” the Police noted.
The clarification follows earlier news about a Kia Truck with registration number ER-760-23, which was intercepted on the Sekesua road on 30th September, 2025.
According to the Police, the vehicle was carrying 36 bags of dried substances suspected to be narcotics alongside a load of sawdust.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck was intercepted by officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, Koforidua.
However, after the vehicle and its contents were conveyed to the Sekesua Police Station, the driver and his mate managed to escape, abandoning the truck. Efforts, the Police confirmed, have been intensified to re-arrest the two suspects.
The statement further added that the seized vehicle and substances remain under the custody of the Eastern Regional Command. Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau has begun investigations into the incident.
The Service assured the public of transparency in handling the case while urging citizens to be cautious of misinformation.
