We faced a psychological trap

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, now a contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship, has opened up about the challenging build-up to the 2014 elections, revealing insights from his nationwide campaign efforts.
Agyarko recalled the strategic groundwork he undertook across the country.
“We started from Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern region, UT, throughout all the 16 regions,” he said on Good Evening Ghana.
“And I told him that, I mean, he was distraught.
“And I told him that there were about 30 to 35 constituencies that if we attacked those, I said they were by-elections, we could salvage some of them.”
He continued; “He asked me for the 30, I gave him the list.
“And that was after which I then set out to see what some of my young friends who are in for the first or second time, to help them on the grounds. But by the time I got to Accra, I felt that my suspicion had already been confirmed.”
Agyarko explained why the elections were particularly tough.
“Because it was a difficult election. Why was it so difficult? It was a difficult election because there is a psychological trap that we’ve fallen into, eight-year cycle.
“And you see, when we are in opposition, we talk eight years. When NDC is in opposition, they talk eight years.”
He also highlighted the role of political messaging in shaping public perception.
“I remember a very fantastic ad orchestrated by Oboshie Sai Coffie… ‘Moko aya ni moko aba.’
