Transformation can’t happen overnight – Boakye Agyarko on ‘Moko aya ni moko aba’ cycle

Boakye Agyarko has shared insights into the challenges of governance and electoral psychology in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with Paul Adom-Otchere on Good Evening Ghana,’ Agyarko highlighted the role of subliminal messaging and the unrealistic expectations governments often place on themselves.
“What I’m saying is that through subliminal messaging and advertisement, we have trapped ourselves over this period into this Moko aya ni moko aba cycle,” he said. “Right?”
Agyarko argued that governments often burden themselves with ambitious transformational agendas within short timeframes, which sets the stage for public impatience.
“The government also at the beginning, put upon itself a heavy transformational agenda to implement within a very short time.
“That kind of transformational agendas don’t happen on short leashes and short cycles,” he explained.
He cited examples from global development models to stress his point. “People talk about Singapore.
“People talk about Mahathir Mohammed in Malaysia. People even talk about Fernando Henrique Cardoso in Brazil. These were not short leash four, eight year cycles that lead to transformation,” he said firmly.
