Current objective of NDC is to fulfill promises to Ghanaians, not who leads party

Lawyer and Communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Suhuyini, has stressed that the NDC is currently concentrating on fulfilling its promises to Ghanaians and not pursuing who becomes the party’s presidential candidate in the 2028 General Elections.
For him, any operative of the party, including President John Mahama, ought to focus on governance and not internal party politics regarding who becomes flagbearer of the party.
“For us in the NDC, I think that the objective now is to stay true to the social contract that we signed with the good people of this country and based on which they gave us an overwhelming mandate on the 7th of December 2024. That should be the focus of any operative of the NDC, and of course His Excellency John Dramani Mahama,” he on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday, October 4
His comments come at a time there appears to be much interest in who leads the NDC in 2028 following several opinion polls by Global InfoAnalytics on the persons likely to succeed President John Mahama as presidential candidate of the party.
The most recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that the Member of Parliament for Tamale South and Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu is the most preferred candidate by party delegates. He leads with a 30% share.
Other contenders are the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who got an impressive 24% share, followed by Finance Minister Ato Forson with 18%.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa share the rest of the votes.
Some prominent persons of the NDC have raised concerns about Global InfoAnalytics’ poll on who leads the NDC, noting that it risks distracting the party’s focus on governance and threatening its unity.
