Asogli Yam Festival: Volta Region holds great agricultural potential

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has stated that the Volta Region has shown its potential to be a backbone under the Government’s Feed Ghana Programme, pledging governmental investment to tap into the region’s agricultural potential.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at this year’s Asogli Yam Festival, yesterday[ October 4,2025] at a durbar in the Asogli State, the Vice President noted that the Government was working to improve agricultural yields, prevent post-harvest losses and make agriculture more attractive to the youth.
“Indeed, the Volta Region is showing her potential to be our agricultural backbone under the Feed Ghana Programme. With an irrigation system that is underutilised and ready to be rehabilitated, the region is ideally placed to scale up crop production, especially rice and yam,” the Vice President said.
She stressed that
initiatives of Government such as the Feed Ghana Programme and the Nkoko Nkitsinkitsi initiative were interventions designed to empower farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and make agriculture more attractive to the youth.
The theme for this year’s Asogli Yam Festival( Asogli Te Za) is :“Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation,” emphasizing unity, truth, and national development.”
Asogli Te za is celebrated by the Asogli people to, primarily, thank God and their gods for a successful yam harvest. The festival serves as an avenue for the people to put their rich cultural heritage on display as well as showcase the potential of the Asogli State.
The Vice President commended the overlord of the Asogli State, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, Togbe afede XIV and his people for preserving their cultural heritage.
