Lagos honours Adekunle Gold with street named after him

A street in Lagos has been officially renamed Adekunle Kosoko Street, and singer Adekunle Gold led the unveiling alongside his wife, singer Simi, and their daughter, Deja, on October 6, 2025. Video and photos shared from the event show the family pulling down a covering cloth to reveal the new nameplate.

Adekunle posted a clip of the moment on his Instagram account, captioning it, “Adekunle Kosoko Street.

The city that raised me now carries my name.”

The footage circulated widely on social platforms and was reported by national outlets as a formal recognition of his career and public profile.

Local coverage indicates the renaming took place in Lagos and that the ceremony was brief, family-centred and publicized by the artist himself.

News reports noted the occasion as an honour acknowledging his contributions to Nigerian music.

Adekunle Gold, born Adekunle Kosoko on January 28, 1987, began his music career in Lagos and first gained widespread attention with his breakout single “Sade.”

He released his debut album, Gold, in 2016 and has since released several studio projects that blend highlife, Afrobeat and contemporary pop.

In 2023 he signed with an international label, a step that further raised his global profile. He is married to singer Simi, and the couple have one daughter.
