GES Distributes Over 6.6 Million Sanitary Pads to School Girls Nationwide

In celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has distributed over 6.6 million sanitary pads to school girls across all 16 regions of the country.
This initiative aims to support menstrual hygiene management and ensure that no girl misses school during her menstrual period.
Commemorating the day under the theme “The Girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis”, GES emphasized the collective responsibility to empower every girl in Ghana through education, growth, and personal development.
According to the Service, the distribution forms part of the Government of Ghana’s ongoing promise to provide free sanitary pads to school girls from basic to second cycle, on a monthly basis throughout their school years. This effort highlights the government’s commitment to improving menstrual hygiene, promoting gender equality in education, and safeguarding the health and confidence of adolescent girls.
In a statement, GES reassured all school girls of its dedication to building an inclusive, equitable, and responsive education system. Girls were encouraged to remain focused on their studies and fully utilize the opportunities made available to them through this initiative.
GES also extended its appreciation to the Ministry of Education for its tireless efforts in operationalizing this life-changing initiative for school girls nationwide.
Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, signed off the statement, emphasizing the importance of the initiative in promoting the welfare and dignity of girls across Ghana.
