Marriage has taught me patience — Kow Essuman

Away from the suits and the courtroom, Kow Essuman says he’s a man who values family, faith, and the simple joys of life.

In his conversation with Bola Ray on Starr Chat monitored by MyNewsGh, the lawyer and politician opened up about marriage, fatherhood, and what keeps him grounded.

“I met my wife, Lady Anne, in Tema,” he recalled. “At first, she was actually giving me tips on how to talk to other women,” he said with a laugh.

“We were friends, that’s how it started. Later, friendship became something deeper.”

Now married for over eight years, Essuman says the relationship has been both rewarding and refining.

“Marriage has taught me patience,” he admitted. “It’s not all rosy, there are ups and downs, but you learn to let the good moments outweigh the difficult ones.”

He also reflected on the challenge of balancing public service with family time.

“When I became secretary, the work was intense. I even missed my own birthday once because of meetings,” he said. “My wife wasn’t happy, but we cut the cake the next morning.”

Despite his demanding schedule, he described fatherhood as “the greatest teaching experience.”

“It teaches you about God and leadership,” he said. “You learn to listen, to correct with love, and to admit when you’re wrong. Children have a way of showing you who you really are.”
