A woman will be President of Ghana soon – Mahama declares at Global Leaders’ Meeting in China

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to gender equality, expressing optimism that Ghana will soon witness its first female president.
Addressing the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in China on Monday, October 13, President Mahama emphasized that the strides Ghana has made toward empowering women are not just symbolic but a reflection of deep-seated national values.
“These are not symbolic gestures; they are a deliberate affirmation that women deserve a seat at the highest levels of decision-making,” Mahama declared, earning applause from dignitaries including President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China and other world leaders in attendance.
The President pointed to Ghana’s progress in education as a major foundation for women’s empowerment.
“We’ve achieved gender parity in school enrollment. Girls are going to school and staying in school,” he said, noting that access to education has transformed the prospects of young women across the country.
Mahama also highlighted Ghana’s policy measures and legal reforms aimed at protecting women and girls, stressing that equality must go beyond words and manifest in systems that empower.
“Our commitment is further demonstrated by robust institutional reforms and legal frameworks that are designed to protect the rights of women and girls,” he stated.
With his remarks, Mahama reinforced his long-standing belief that women have the capacity and right to lead at the highest level.
“I am confident that, in the very near future, our women will break the glass ceiling and that a woman will be president of the Republic of Ghana,”
