New talents are welcome, but not at the expense of loyalty’ — Minority on Sports Minister’s comment

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reacted to the Sports Minister’s recent endorsement of including diaspora players in Ghana’s World Cup squad, saying the idea is welcome — but only if handled with fairness and respect toward those who earned the qualification ticket.

In a post shared by Old Tafo MP, the caucus acknowledged that Ghanaian players abroad with exceptional ability have every right to aspire to represent their country. However, it stressed that patriotism should not only be measured by skill but also by willingness to serve when the nation is most in need.

“Love for the country is truly measured in moments of greatest need. Those who answered the call when qualification was on the line deserve nothing less than dignity and appreciation,” the statement read.

While praising the Minister’s enthusiasm for supporting the technical team, the Minority underscored the need for balance, urging that new players be integrated in a way that builds on the existing foundation rather than disrupting it.

“The introduction of new talents must be a means of strengthening the squad, not displacing those who sacrificed for it,” the caucus said.

The statement also celebrated the current Black Stars players for their discipline and resilience. “They rekindled our hope as a football nation. Their sweat must not be forgotten, and it will not be in vain,” it added.
