Minister not shielding anyone in galamsey battle

Paa Kwesi Schandorf has defended the political will of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) minister leading Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
The Media Relations Officer at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources dismissed claims that the fight against illegal mining is unachievable due to political interference.
He argued that the minister in charge has demonstrated genuine commitment and independence in tackling the issue.
He went on to provide an example, citing the recent interrogation of two leading NDC figures as evidence that the minister is not shielding anyone involved in illegal mining activities.
“The minister is a member of the National Democratic Congress. Now, just recently, I think some two weeks ago, we had two leading members of the NDC, that is the party’s national organiser and the third national vice chairman of the party.
“Both individuals were, I don’t want to say arrested, but they became subjects of scrutiny. As we speak, and forever, the minister is not interfering in the process,” he explained in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime monitred by MyNewsGh.
