Mahama will protect Chinese investments – Okudzeto Ablakwa

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has given strong assurances to Chinese investors about the safety and stability of their businesses under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Ablakwa, who accompanied President Mahama to China, said the Ghanaian leader had earned the confidence of Chinese President Xi Jinping himself at the Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

“President Xi made a profound statement,” Mr. Ablakwa told an audience of Ghanaian and Chinese officials, investors, and business leaders.

“He said that in President Mahama, he can trust him to protect all legitimate Chinese businesses.”

Reaffirming that trust, Ablakwa said Ghana’s government remains committed to safeguarding investments and promoting fair trade.

“You can be assured that President Mahama will protect your investments. Ghanaian law will protect your investments, and the Ghanaian people will welcome you to our beautiful republic,” he added.

He also praised the active role of Ghana’s diplomatic missions in China, highlighting their efforts in strengthening bilateral ties.

“Trust the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to remain active here and continue with the engagements,” Mr. Ablakwa stated, citing the work of Ghana’s embassy in Beijing, the consulate in Guangzhou, and the honorary consuls in Hong Kong and Macau.

Marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, Ablakwa revealed that trade between the two nations had reached an impressive US$11.8 billion.

He encouraged Chinese companies to view Ghana as their entry point into the African market.

“When you talk to Africans, they will tell you there is only one door to Africa. The gateway to Africa is Ghana,” he emphasized.

Ablakwa concluded by commending President Mahama’s leadership, saying the president had been addressing the challenges inherited from previous administrations.

“Since assuming the presidency, he is fixing all the problems he inherited. He has fixed the economy, and only a few days ago, he has also fixed football,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
