I had goosebumps while recording ‘Sore’” – Yaw Tog recounts

When Yaw Tog recorded “Sore” in 2020, he had no idea it would become a nationwide anthem, let alone while he was still in SHS 3.

The rapper, born Thorsten Owusu Gyimah, opened up to Kula about how the hit was created from scratch with friends in Santasi. “After recording that song, I knew it was a hit.

“I had goosebumps the whole time,” he said.

He revealed that the video for “Sore” was shot by his friend Kopoku, who helped him for free. “It wasn’t funded by me. It was all love and support,” he shared.

Recalling life in school after the song blew up, Yaw Tog said the atmosphere was surreal. “Teachers and students treated me differently. My primary school teachers were even looking for me. It was a big feeling.”

However, the success came with distractions. “It affected my learning. I was performing and doing interviews while still a boarding student,” he said. “The headmaster even called my mom because I was missing classes.”

He added that he always wanted to be a musician. “Before ‘Sore’ blew, I told myself after school I’ll be a superstar. But it happened faster than I expected. I just believed in my words.”
