My support for Kennedy Agyapong reflects the people’s choice

Former NPP member and independent 2024 election candidate Cynthia Mamle Morrison has expressed strong support for Kennedy Agyapong, emphasizing that her backing is rooted in both his leadership abilities and the will of the people.
“The people that are around me, that’s what they say, this is the person that they want. And if it is the person they want, who am I?” Morrison said in an interview on Starr FM, as monitored by MyNewsGh, underlining that her political decisions are guided by public sentiment rather than party loyalty.
She defended Agyapong’s competence, asking rhetorically, “Of course, I know he’s competent.
What does it take? Wasn’t he a president? Wasn’t my Trump a president? What does it take to be president? It doesn’t take anything.”
By drawing a comparison to current U.S. President Donald Trump, Morrison highlighted that effective leadership often transcends traditional expectations.
Morrison reflected on her own experience as Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, saying, “When I went to Gender, I knew how to do the homely things,” emphasizing the value of practical, hands-on governance.
Her remarks also shed light on why she broke away from the NPP to run as an independent in 2024.
Morrison explained that her departure was driven by a commitment to follow her convictions and the voice of the people she represents, rather than remaining constrained by party loyalty or political favors.
