Mahama has done well – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu acknowledges NDC’s economic gains

Former Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for its economic management, describing the government’s performance over the past nine months as impressive and encouraging.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko KT on Lawson TV monitored by MyNewsGh, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Mahama-led government had “performed well by bringing inflation down, stabilising the cedi, and effectively implementing the gold board policy.”
“When the NPP left office, inflation was around 21 percent,” he noted. “But now the NDC has achieved a single-digit inflation rate, which is a huge positive.”
He further praised the government’s handling of interest rates, explaining that while the NPP had worked to reduce bank rates from 32 to 22 percent before leaving office, the NDC had “gone a step further” by bringing it down to 18 percent.
On the exchange rate, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu acknowledged the progress made under the current administration.
“When we left office, the cedi was trading at 16 cedis to the dollar. Now, under Mahama, it’s about 10 cedis. That shows good management,” he said.
According to him, these gains indicate that the NDC government is “on the right trajectory” and making tangible progress in restoring economic stability.
