I lived with hernia for 10 years before surgery

Award-winning Ghanaian musician Samini has opened up about a deeply personal health journey, revealing that he lived with a hernia for 10 years before finally undergoing surgery.
Speaking on the Health Quarters podcast monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the reggae-dancehall icon recounted how he endured persistent abdominal pain yet continued performing, even when he knew something was wrong.
“I still kept it cool and did that last performance,” Samini said. “Anybody watching me knew I wasn’t my normal self. I used only half my energy.”
It wasn’t until concern from his team prompted him to open up that Samini sought medical help, a decision that eventually saved him from severe complications.
“When I finally spoke to my team and we did the test, it turned out to be a hernia I had kept for over ten years,” he revealed. “Thankfully, it hadn’t developed into something worse.”
The “Linda” hitmaker underwent successful surgery and spent about three months recovering, quietly managing his health away from the public eye.
He noted that as an entertainer from the “analog to digital” era, he wasn’t the type to broadcast his private struggles online.
“I’m not your typical ‘Snapchatting because I’m sick’ person,” Samini said. “But I think this is the right time to share it so others, especially live performers, can learn.”
Samini also cautioned against self-medicating or relying on “herbal” remedies for hernias, stressing that no medicine can cure the condition.
“There’s no medication that can melt a hernia. The only solution is surgery,” he emphasized.
He encouraged fellow artists and fans alike to get checked regularly, especially if they feel persistent lower abdominal discomfort.
