Mahama swears in 37 New High Court Judges, urges integrity and fairness

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in 37 new High Court Judges, urging them to uphold integrity and fairness as the cornerstone of Ghana’s democracy. The ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Thursday, October 23.

Addressing the newly appointed justices, President Mahama emphasized that their roles go beyond mere appointments, symbolizing a reaffirmation of Ghana’s commitment to justice and the rule of law.

“This ceremony represents more than an appointment.

“It is a renewal of our faith in the enduring principle that justice is the fairness pillar of our democracy and that Ghana shall always be governed by law, never by the whims of capricious power,” he declared.

The President charged the judges to remain above reproach, reminding them that public trust is as important as judicial competence.

“Be incorruptible, not only in fact, but also in perception. Let every citizen who appears before you believe that their fate rests solely on the evidence and the law, never on influence or connections,” he cautioned.

Underscoring the connection between governance and justice, President Mahama described development and justice as “inseparable twins of the same mother.”

He warned that “a nation that invests in infrastructure but neglects the rule of law builds its progress on shifting sands.”
