Edem Senanu Hails ORAL Committee’s credibility and data integrity

Chairperson of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC), Edem Senanu, has described the establishment of the Oural Committee as a “brilliant” move toward rebuilding public trust in Ghana’s anti-corruption framework.

Mr. Senanu said his optimism stemmed from data in the 2022–2023 Afrobarometer survey, which showed that over 30 percent of Ghanaians were unwilling to report corruption due to fear of retaliation or lack of confidence in outcomes.

“People said they wouldn’t report because they anticipated victimization or retaliation, that their biodata would be leaked to those they reported.

The second reason was that they felt nothing would change,” he explained on TV3’s KeyPoints monitored by MyNewsGh.

Senanu commended the ORAL Committee for its composition, describing its members as seasoned figures in the anti-corruption field who had “handled sensitive data for years without exposing their sources.”

“These are people known to have produced results without compromising confidentiality. That gives citizens confidence that if they report to them, their identity will not be leaked, and results will follow,” he said.

He added that this initiative represents a necessary complement to existing institutions such as the Special Prosecutor’s Office and CHRAJ, which have already earned varying levels of public trust.

“I think this is a unique platform, and we should keep it,” he emphasized.
