Possible replacements for current IGP who retires next month

The Inspector General of Police(IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu, who assumed office on March 14, 2025, is set to retire from the service in December 2025 after his stellar performance as a police officer which saw him rise to the very zenith of the service.
As expected, MyNewsGh.com has gathered there are several senior police officers who could be his replacements in spite of rumours that the IGP could be retained on a post-retirement contract for another two years by the Police Council.
Interestingly, Ghana could get its first substantive female Inspector General of Police in the person of Commissioner of Police/Ms Lydia Yaako Donkor.
COP Yaako Donkor, who is currently the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has been widely tipped to replace COP Mr Yohunu.
Since her outdooring as the CID Boss, she has become a favourite officer of many Ghanaians, made evident by the support and praise she gets, especially on social media.
Her recent election as the first Ghanaian and member of the INTERPOL Africa Committee is testament to her competence.
Other persons who could possibly become the next IGP are COP Vance Baba Gariba, the Director General in charge of Operations, and COP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba, the Director- General, Technical.
Massive lobbying is said to be at play as the Police Council and the President work to name a new IGP should Mr Yohunu retire.
Meanwhile, MyNewsGh.com understands that COP Michael Nketia Frimpong, the Director-General for Finance who is on a post-retirement contract, which makes him unfit for the position despite his alleged close ties with the government.
