We work for one Ghana — Kissi Agyebeng on AG support, Ofori-Atta extradition

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has emphasized the need for close cooperation between his office and the Attorney-General as efforts continue to return former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from the United States.

He said the fight against corruption requires unified institutional action, stressing that both offices must work as one.

“The OSP must and will always work together with the Attorney-General. Attorney-General in turn should hold our hands. We are working for one republic, one Ghana,” he stated during an appearance on the KSM Show monitored by MyNewsGh.

Addressing efforts to bring Ofori-Atta back, Agyebeng explained that the process is governed by international law and cannot be rushed.

He made clear that although Ofori-Atta is under notice, physical retrieval can only happen through formal extradition channels. “We can’t just go into the US, spring him up and bring him. We are going through a very tedious extradition process,” he said.

He noted that even after Interpol steps are triggered, the timelines depend on foreign authorities and could be affected by higher executive decisions in the United States.

He joked that if Ofori-Atta were living locally, “he would be with us,” but since he is abroad, the OSP cannot “put a date on it.”

Agyebeng said cooperation from security agencies has improved significantly, but the law must still take its course, warning that the public should not expect a quick return as international processes must be respected.
